Public interest in these small carvings was strong and requests began for these pieces alone, to be used for jewelry or other ornamentation. Over the years the process has been further refined and developed, evolving into the unique and specialized process I use today. Each piece is strong enough to be worn practically, without unnecessary concern about breakage.

Blue Jay

Easy to recognize, this crested noisy bird frequents back yards throughout most of the US east of the Rockies. This member of the crow family has gained a reputation for robbing the nests of other songbirds eating their eggs and young. Although Blue Jays do this occasionally they primarily feed on acorns, berries and nuts.

The striking blue color in the Blue Jay’s feathers is mostly the result of light refraction not actual blue pigmentation. The same phenomena that give some waterfowl, like the Wood Duck, a bright glowing metallic shimmer.
